Semeraro Family Turkey Bowl, 2009

One of the best family traditions for Semeraro’s living in Columbus was the annual Turkey Bowl flag football tournament – held every Thanksgiving at Alum Creek Park in Westerville, Ohio.

I can’t tell you when it first started (1996? 1998?), but by 2000 the Turkey Bowl was THE place to be for friends and family on Thanksgiving morning.

At one point, we had 50+ participants for this once in a lifetime classic sports tournament.

Bragging rights, cheers, sunshine, rain, sleet, snow, hot chocolate, spin moves, play-calling strategery (some of us are Republicans), brilliant catches, and sometimes explosive (literally) half-time shows were the norm until the tournament “officially” ended in 2010.

Take Care,

Paul
